Got a 1949 (p) US 1c "Wheat penny" in change at the Cologne-Bonn airport!!!

XF ish condition. biggrin.gif Not as good as my silver a few weeks ago but fun none-the-less.

Ciao, and Hook 'em Horns,
Capt-AWACS, I'm your huckleberry

My granddaughter and a couple of her friends have been saving loose change in hopes of taking a road trip this summer. I've been "mining/scavenging" in a couple of gallon collection jars. I have found a few pieces of silver, nothing spectacular, but more than I anticipated. Here's what I found:

One of these days, I'll go through the rest of the jars (2 more).

My son gave me a 1935 Buffalo Nickel that he got in change.

Here's a picture of my "jar" finds and a listing since I did not get pics of all.

Somebody must of broke out a roll. I got a 1973 Eisenhower Dollar close to if not ms state.
Capt-AWACS
Hmm, In Houston? I had spent two rolls of Ikes in the States, and in Houston (during the floods) I probably spent 12-15 around town, mainly downtown biggrin.gif

Ciao, and Hook 'em Horns,
Capt-AWACS, Paris, the Beirut of Europe
Mark Stilson
Yep, in Houston at a desert place by the Galleria. You don't see ikes running around very much any more.
Capt-AWACS
Cool, I tipped one or two near the Galleria mainly at some Greek places where my friend belly-dances on Tues/Fri night. Usually when I spend them folks keep them or take them out of the cash drawer at once.

I can get them for about $1.15 a piece at a place in Oklahoma so it is worth the 15cent markup to see the looks on peoples faces. Europeans love them.

Funny thing is I never want to spend wheat cents but love spending Ikes. blink.gif

Found a 1989-P nickel. I think it's full steps although it may be partial, but it's a nice partial steps regardless, nice upgrade from my change.

Okay, I have very little idea of what this is, or how old it is, but today in a register I pulled out what I figured was a crusty wheat cent, then I took a second look. It appears to be some sort of old trade token for Union Flour P.L. WING & CO Albany NY, possibly used during WWI or II. If anyone has any idea of what this is I'd appreciate it. And two foriegn coins also.

Your find appears to be a civil war token like the one in this auction...link.

Good going. The token is an especially nice find. Looks like it's been in the ground for a while.

Thats the exact one! Thanks! And yes it does appear to have been in the ground or something of the sort, I was just really surprised to have found it....too bad I don't have the same luck with my metal detector lol! bthumbsup.gif

Very kool Vfox.

My daughter found me a 1937 Buffalo nickel in her cash drawer at CEC.
Burks
Found an UNC 1960-D Lincoln in change while at work.

Also, finally, found some silver doing roll searches! Two 1967 Kennedy's with both in the EF range and some dark orange/red toning. $700 worth of rolls to finally find silver. Out of the $100 I searched, had about 12-15 keepers/upgrades for the folders.

1995's in AU/UNC condition are very popular in my area.

A 2004 Canada PL Dime, and a 1962 Canada AU Nickel. Odd finds for Canadian money down here.

Now that last one's weird. As a cent, sure, but as a nickel?!

Myself, I used to keep the EUR2c as pocket pieces until I lost a bunch because I kept on accidentally spending them as cents.

Yeah I thought it was strange too, but it came out of a new freshly opened roll. It is a little bigger than a cent, but smaller than a nickel, but I'd assume bulk coin counting machines can't tell the difference and just plopped it into the nickel slot.
Capt-AWACS
Found a 1960 D US Dime in the parking lot of a 7-11 store outside the DFW airport yesterday biggrin.gif More silver...

Ciao, and Hook 'em Horns,
Capt-AWACS, Fat kids are harder to kidnap

I found a 1941 and 1947 nickel last night at the drive thru. Besides that 1 wheat penny from 1954 in bad shape and some new face nickels and thats it.
Tiffibunny
2 CO quarters and 2 2006-D cents.
Dockwalliper
Stopped at the bank yesterday and they had the CO. P quarters.(I got 4) My son got a '37 Wheaty in his cash drawer. Got my family trained well.
UncleBobo
This isn't exactly a circulation find but I found a NYC subway token in a box in the trunk of my car and I have no idea how it got there.
The subway hasn't used tokens in years and that box was put into my trunk recently. confused1.gif

I Guess that means the transporter was working. . . .

This is definitely not one of my favorites.

1919 penny - fine and a 1951 d penny xf
Burks
Went through $100 worth of Kennedy's today.

1 - 1968 EF
2 - 1967 AU's
9 - 1976 Bicents in MS condition. Really weird because there would be two stacked in almost every other roll. Best looking 76's I've seen come out of rolls.
1 - 1996 MS

Pretty much all that's worth mentioning. There is a 71' that has an extra wide rim. Kept it just for the heck of it!

Out of my $25 box of cents I opened up two rolls. One had a MS63 or so 1961 facing up and the other a VG/F 1941-D facing up.
Scottishmoney
Sorted through the coins in the ashtray of the car, found a 1968-S Nickel.
Dockwalliper
Another CoinStar find.....1944P silver nickel, along with a canadian dime and some US clad.
Sir Sisu
An Ireland 2005 €2. I guess there are some good points to going back to work after vacation. tongue.gif
Burks
Well I was searching some rolls when the best find of the box was made.

My words, out loud, were "Holy crap!"

A 1942-D that is probably UNC overall. The obverse is basically mark free. Sadly the reverse has some odd coloration which is probably from storage. This coin had to of come from a collection. I'm amazed at the quality. Pictures to come tomorrow!
Vfox
A nice crispy Au (looks like it was folded and flattened years ago) 1935 silver certificate $1 bill. But, it has two light marker spots on the obv, looks like someone marked it with a bill checker marker to make sure it was real....oafs. But, for a dollar, I can't complain lol.

*drool* I was with my father a few years ago and he showed me a '57 $1 Silver Cert. he found in some change. Currently I'm searching for a few of the key notes to finish off my 1923 through 57 series. (Anyone want to spot me a few dozen K for some nice star notes?)

Anywho, I credit that circulation find to my currency side of the hobby. My father also received a few '57s from a bank teller but didn't realize it til later that they were sequential. doh.gif Had he known earlier, he would have gone right back to the bank and asked for the rest of that batch.

So for the last 6 years or so, I haven't seen a single silver certificate in circulation. cry.gif I'd love to find one now.
Rotten Rodney
got a 1961 dime today in ef-40 shape easy. Seems to have some interesting Machine doubling on the reverse
Scottishmoney
Incredibly, a Malaysia 1 sen from 1996, a refugee from afar. This thing is smaller than a dime, but masqueraded as a cent for a while.
Vfox
The paper gods have been kind this week. Last night I got a 1963 red seal $5 and a 1977 $50 star note, both are in used condition, but the $50 is going to jump to eBay shortly, so meh. Oh, and a 2003 Canadian PL dime.
Mila_cent
My son treated me to a dinner for my Birthday today. He needed quarters for the parking meter and when I pulled out my pocket change I found a 2006 Nebraska amoung the change. Which I didn't give up. And it's in pretty good condition, still shiny like new.
