Hi Everyone, I am new to Coin People and besides my intro this is my first post. I was wondering if anyone has any info on where I could go to sell world coins. I have an UNC 1955(G) 1 Deutsche Mark this coin is the second rarest according to World coins for this type, mint and year. It list for XF at 400.00 and UNC for 1,650.00. I don't collect world coins and would love to see someone have it that does. So any info would be great. Thak you Susan

Hi Susan, welcome to coinpeople. hi.gif

Firstly, you must understand that coin collectors pay a crazy amount of attention to the grade and a few scratches can just detract the value off from what you have. Also if the coin looks to be dirty or whatsoever, don't ever try to clean it!!! It's like washing yourself in acid and wiping yourself dry with sandpaper. *Ouch*

Do take photos and the forum will give you a better idea of what grade it is. Then we can talk about what is a good place to sell your coin. It's huge money difference if it's from 400 to 1650 dollars.

Cheers.

First I want to thank you for your reply. Yes, I do know about grading and cleaning. Learned my lesson the hard way on that. This coin really is of very high grade. My Dad brought it with him from France many years ago in the 1950's when he moved here to the States and it has been kept away safe and un touched. How do I go about posting a picture on here? Susan

Actually 1955 G is the rarest mintmark for that year. Other 1 DM coins are less expensive, even those with lower mintages. The Jaeger lists it at €160 for vz (XF), €520 for vz-st (AU) and €1500 for st (unc) ...

Thank You Christian, See that is the problem I am having with selling the coin Know one really deals in world coins where I live and so they do not relize that this Mint is rare. So they offer me just a couple of dollars for it. I would love to find a buyer for it but, I don't even know where to start looking. That is one of the reasons I am hoping someone on the forums may be able to help. Susan

Nice coin really. However with those nicks all over the coin, I'll probably put it about VF-XF.

Hmm, VF rather than XF methinks - and for VF the Jaeger (or rather the MünzenRevue from the same publishing house) says €15. Now the interesting part is that dot near the S of the word "Deutsche": The Jaeger catalog mentions such a "dot variety", and lists a price of €65 even for ss/VF. (Those prices would not be what one could get for the coin but rather what a dealer would charge.) So I think this coin is not worth a terrible lot, but certainly more than just a few dollars ...
