Confirms to date what the year range of counterfeits are:

Not bad though, the edging is quite well done.

It is worse than it appears. These are St. Petersburg roubles and the past fakes
have all been Moscow for Elizabeth. Someone has a very unpleasant surprise
coming when they try to sell this junk to a collector or dealer who knows the series.

I have been seeing both MMD and SPB roubles from China the last couple of months. They are the same just a reengraved mint mark.

And now a piece of Russian plate money

Another piece of junk awaiting a fool to bid on it...

Hmmm ... don't know about the 1725 part, but it might have been something they found after Katrina went through ... wink.gif

Thankfully i am an Ugly Copper Person and the Chinese can't make much on me. I have only one overstrike that i know to be fake.. but as you know I am still learning from you guys.

I’m sure this is old news to all, but there are copper fakes out there. Most are as recognizable as the Chinese roubles, but there are some casts that aren’t easy to spot by the tiny images provided by eBay sellers. And the prices on some coppers are high. There was that 1805 kopeek that we discussed here a few weeks ago, and the cast of a 1755 baroque kopeek. Both sold at close to a thousand dollars if the memory serves me right.

Mike, (if I may call you by your first name) would it be possible to see some pictures of your fake overstrike?
Mike Shaver
Of course .. had it on ebay with a bunch more .. buyer pointed out possibility of fake .. I pulled it. Need your e-mail address .. can't seem to send pics otherwise .. Photosmart is smarter than I am ..
