i know nothing about this coin , and it's probably the only coin that i have in my collection that is unidentified! any help would be fantastic, thanks

the writing is hebrew ..so might be from israel smile.gif hope this helps

RD, I see some arabic script on the top side. As the resident Bahraini, shouldn't you know that!

thanks for that smile.gif bit of a disapointment tho - i was hopeing it was rarer than that. it's still pretty odd i guess.

Those tokens (sg. asimon, pl. asimonim) were indeed quite common in Israel; some other countries also had telephone tokens. In most countries they are not used any more, due to the use of phone cards, liberalization of telecom markets, and ubiquitous cell phones. smile.gif Israel is no exception, it seems: http://www.worldpayphones.com/mideast/country-Israel.htm

If you scroll to (roughly) the middle of that page, you can see some of them. These tokens are actually dated, but I cannot read the Hebrew years. Maybe somebody else here can tell when yours was issued ...
