K-213 IN THE FLUSH OF VICTORY (Im Siegestaumel), 1918, Cast Bronze, 58mm, RR, AU.

Obverse: The Gallic coq proudly stands on the flag staffs of his allies, America, England, and Italy. In the background are cracked and burning buildings with a “Viva Foch” inscription. Dated October 1918.

Reverse: The French General Foch is seen leading the embodiment of four preponderant shareholding continents in victory; the African native, Asiatic oriental, Australian aborigine, and the American Indian.

This has been a tough one to acquire. In the five years I've been collecting Goetz I think I've seen two or three times but always in a large collection at auction. I had always had to forego picking this one up because I'd be trying to acquire rarer pieces from the same auction. Anyway, I just picked up another 15-20 pieces from a private U.S. collection and this was one of the pieces. I have always referred to this medal as the "The Village People" medal as it always reminds me of one of their album covers I recall from the 70's. Enjoy.

Or more likely, a young boy who grew up reading Karl May! Great medal.

Completely outside my area of expertise, and price range I bet. But I think they are great medals and you must be thrilled to have finally acquired this one. Thanks for sharing your joy with us, plus for showing me a new area in which to browse ( But not to collect).

constanius, for the most part Goetz' satirical pieces are the most affordable of all his medals. This is primarily due to their original popularity and, thereby, more made to supply the demand. Most pieces can go for between $200-300 with only some of the rarer or cross-collected bronze pieces going upwards of $1000. Silver is obviously higher still due to the rarity of the medal during the war.

Pieces with the American flag or U.S. related in some way are more collectable and therefore command a little more premium but usually the larger problem lies in locating them in the first place. Although there are more of these than his other designs there is still a finite number available outside of the museums and private collections.
