As usual, most eBay sellers seem to make lousy photographers! sad.gif Besides, it is really impossible to grade a coin accurately from a picture.

I can't tell much of anything about the Romanov rouble from the picture, so I will abstain from commenting on that one. When you receive the coin, maybe you can take better pictures for us?

All of the pictures of the 1899 ten roubles gold coin seem to be out of focus, perhaps purposefully so in an effort to hide the numerous marks and scratches one can see anyway. It is especially annoying that the photo of the edge reveals nothing about which mintmaster initials are engraved there. I would grade it only VF, without the scratches maybe XF -- a coin of this type and year in this condition would normally sell for about melt 3 or 4 years ago, but today the prices have inflated terrifically. I would have waited to find a better coin for the price you paid; 1899 is one of the most common years for this type. Hopefully you will receive a genuine coin ... there are very clever fakes out there. Be sure to weigh it when you receive it.

I like the 5 rouble gold coin the best; however, there seems to be a lot of rub on Nicholas' ear and some rub on the hair, so it will probably grade about XF/XF+.

Thanks very much for your opinion! I will surely weight all coins and will post scans once i will get them. You're probably right, i think that i paid a bit more for a 10 rouble coin than it's worth:-( Seller has a very solid feedback, so i think that he wouldn't dare to sell a fake coin. But will double check once i get it. Thanks again

1913 1R - XF-AU (possibly cleaned)
1899 10R - AU-50, but has a deep scratch, so is likely a 'no grader'
1898 5R XF-45

Thanks, Ilya! But what do you mean by "no grader"?
IlyaE
Grading companies like NGC and PCGS don't grade cleaned, scratched, damaged and other problem coins (you can check it here - http://www.ngccoin.com/coingrading/grading2.asp). They will reject such coins with 'No Grade' assigned. These coins worth at least 1 grade less than the same coin without problems and a lot of dealers / collectors don't buy such coins.

But as long as you like it, it doesn't matter. Prices on Russian coins keep appreciating and there is always demand.

Positive feedback or not, I would be very cautious here! evilbanana.gif
