Yes they are typically referred to as gaming tokens. Sometimes you come across one which has been gold plated and people confuse them with George III spade Guineas.

I see, this would explain why some are dated 1701 and that's not even in George III's reign. The one is 1788 however, which is in the correct period. It doesn't look like the makers of the tokens were big on accuracy!
