Someone was able to identify this for me smile.gif

Hindu Shahis of Kabul and Gadhara, Samanta Deva, silver/billon jital.
Obverse Recumbent bull facing left, above in Sarada script Sri Samanta Deva (anonymous title of the Hindu Shahi kings, c.AD 850-1000)
Reverse Horseman to right. To left Sarada akshara bhi. Symbol on the right not clear.

Indian coins are tough. I have some references for the early counterstamped and Gupta stuff but after that it's really hard to distinguish issues, at least for me. I suspect more good references on these coins should be coming to print.

ca. 850-970 AD

Stylized horseman holding spear riding right

Stylized humped bull with Brahmi name above.

Type N coin (Bull and horseman)

WEIGHT OF THE COIN IS - 3.1-3.4 GMS

DIAMETER - 16 MM APPROX

Nice coin, porthos. These served as a prototype for many later Indian coins.
