Depends on where you are and whether they have them. Most of the time I can find them, occasionally I even get silver halves. I like to look in the trays they have behind the teller window to see off colour coins. At my banks they usually have them, and want to get rid of them along with dollar coins.

Whoops on my part, didn't notice the Canadian Forums, but I have never gotten any in banks in Canada. They are a pretty much mint set coin after the 1960's. I always ask when I am there, but so far have never found any. Occasionally I have been offered some of the older Cu-NI dollars from the 1970's though.

The only place I've ever gotten them is from my local coin shop. Mintages since 1986 have been under one million, except for the special issue 2002 for the Queen's 50th year at the throne (14.4 Million).

I've been able to get them at my bank. Larger city (Victoria, BC), and main branch of the bank in the city. Last time I was in they said they had 3 rolls of halfs and about 100 Nickel dollars. I picked up a roll of each.
