I haven't seen fakes for this year before, is this coin just dipped or it's a fake?

I don't have access to my books right now, but I think it is probably a fake. I don't like the style of the portrait and especially that of the eagle.

I don't quite remember if there was actually ANY example of the word "MONETA" that is actually that close to the ball or rather even have the ball in between the word. Definately looks wrong from first impression with the pittings on the portrait.

Both obverse and reverse dies appear perfectly normal; I think that the piece has been harshly cleaned.

You are correct.
I was doubtful about the nearly smooth trailing edge of the eagle's wings compared to the earlier indented style of the Dassier-style eagle. After checking the GM plates, I see this is normal for the 1772 roubles.

It's always good for a second opinion
Thanks Julian - I still got plenty to learn.

Why the plain surfaces looks porous? Have you checked how it sounds? And the weight?

Thanks for information. I just bought this coin on the auction, not sure about the sound and weight. Will try to update once I receive it.
