Man Jailed in Pittsburgh After Trying to Pass Off $1 Million Bill at Grocery Store
The Associated Press
PITTSBURGH Oct 9, 2007 (AP)

That's what a man was seeking Saturday when he handed a $1 million bill to a cashier at a Pittsburgh supermarket. But
when the Giant Eagle employee refused and a manager confiscated the bogus bill, the man flew into a rage, police said.

...

Police believe the $1 million note seized at the supermarket may have originated at a Dallas-based ministry. Last year, the ministry distributed thousands of religious pamphlets with a picture of President Grover Cleveland on a $1 million bill.

The real issue is not so much that someone tried to pass it off, but that the person on the receiving end might of actually taken it, but since they didn't have change for it, they had to ask a manager for more change. I have been in stores and had managers called over on $2 bills, like they are some fantasy or counterfeit.

Here's a related story from 2006:

Judge: Secret Service can seize tracts
By TIM WYATT / The Dallas Morning News
07:22 AM CDT on Friday, June 23, 2006

A federal judge in Dallas won't bar the U.S. Secret Service from seizing religious tracts passed out by a Denton-based ministry because the pamphlets look like a million bucks.

U.S. District Judge Jorge Solis refused to grant a request by Darrel Rundus of the Great News Network to order federal agents to return thousands of tracts – printed as million-dollar bills – seized June 2 from the ministry's Denton office.

...

He said his clients didn't design or print the tracts but purchased them from a Southern California ministry.
Living Waters Ministry sells the million-dollar bill tracts – 100 for $5.
