this is a pic of a gold 5 rouble, it looks exactly the same except it clearly(in russian) says twenty instead of five, and the year is obviously different.

i have been trying to find info on it (the 20 rouble) and all the info points to 15 rouble coins from that time, there isn't any mention of this coin, could this be a fake???

Yes there is an extremely rare pattern of 1755 20 ruble recorded in Uzdenikov. If you are planning to buy the coin from an unknown source, I can safely assure you that if it's not a high 5 digit figure as in Euros or USD from a reputable auction house, chances are you are getting an ultra cheap "copy" yes.gif

Welcome to coinpeople by the way. hi.gif

Thanks for the welcome!

I would just like to confirm with you that there is a 1755 gold 20 ruble coin that looks EXACTLY like the five ruble in the pic of my first post?, I mean exactly, if so what would you say the value would be, not in mint condition, elisabeths figure is worn but the rest is ok, and how would someone go about confirming its not a fake??

agfl, it would be a lot faster if you can post a picture of it. Like I mentioned, it is an extremely rarity and it will be more than a miracle that it is genuine. Value can only be determined after determining if it is a genuine coin.

I do not think it is real.

This pattern is an extreme rarity (rated as "Very Rare" by the Grand Duke).

Below is a link to the entry in Bitkin (1st ed.) for comparison. Note the style, edge (corded), weight (33.14 g) and size (37.0 mm) of the genuine coin.

Hello,

I know this is an old post but, the image of the 1764 five ruble is from my site. www.russian-coins.com
Just thought I'd mention it and request that credit be given when images are "gotten" from the net.
