That's a neat find. Thanks for sharing smile.gif Always good to hear that such coins still do circulate in the US.

If only we found stuff like that in our Brit change. Unfortunately there was a massive change called decimilisation and now you can't pass off old denominations as modern currency...

Nice find. However I have poor eye sight so you should send all such old coins to me for a better look. hysterical.gif

Thanks

Even though the coin has been well used it will make a nice add on to my collection

You really don't find many old coins in change nowadays

But every once in awhile you do find one

Very cool! Since senior year in high school I have found 3 silver quarters and 3 silver dimes, but not once a war nickel (though a few from 1939-1941). Why is that? Lucky!

Probably because War Nickels are very easy to spot.

Nice catch Corina.

K;

They are made of 35% silver, manganese and I think tin or something. But the important part is the silver, the nickel from 1942-1945 has the highest relative value of metal in it of any coin save the old gold coins. I believe now the silver in the nickels is worth approximately 70¢. BTW I thought I sent you one, so you would have an S mint nickel.

Oh yes, I got one from you, just never found any in change.

Nice find. A friend came up to me one day holding a 1980-S DCAM Proof Washington Quarter. He had just received the coin, in a handful of change, at the store. If the coin could talk I bet it has a story to tell.

The coin has one tiny contact mark, but otherwise looked as if it just came out of the Proof Set. I have a picture of it on my website.

That is one of the problems with advertising you have a coin collection. May get robbed and the robbers are usually ignorant as to what they have and just spend the coins. One of the reasons you will find such old coins and even proofs in change for a long time.
