Full Version: 1973 error??

while babysitting my lil sister (1 1/2 years old) brought me a peeny she found and i didnt thin much of it then i looked at the back of it and on the lincoln memorial on the first pllar to the 4th pillar there a raised area going 45 degrees from left to right. sorry about the picks i could upload it on the laptop so i put it on flickr so heres my link http://www.flickr.com/photos/13570770@N04/1383909307/ add me if you want!!! let me know what you guys think!!

Its hard seeing, but a die gouge? BTW I think flickr resizes pictures. So you don't get the full size you placed there. I find http://photobucket.com/ a lot better also. They give you a direct link what works great here.

the pic makes the (thing) look weaker but in had it stands out like a gold fish and a dozen bass!!

Without a good close up of the area, die gouge is probably the best answer your going to get. Can you tell if there are lines in the mark. If so probable die polish. Dents in a die have also been known to cause what appear to be gouges.

nope no lines kinda looks like the back of lincolns head but no fur lol

If that is done by a scanner which I suspect, can you increase the resolution? You should be able to unless you have an old scanner.

Appears to be when the Lincoln Memorial was under construction. Just think, you've found a coin where the construction workers made the reverse of that coin based on what they were doing hysterical.gif
Need much better photo.

Hi Dustin,

Wonder if it is a case of a very hard strike on the obverse that is showing through to the reverse. I have found a lot of those while looking through these thousands of Lincolns I have on hand. Don't keep track of them so cannot say I found one like yours.
