Hi Guys,

I have a medal in my collection but am not sure as to its origin or purpose. I think that it translates as Medal for Cultivated German People but I would appreciate any help or info.

I have seen several of these online, most I could find about them are they were a German Social Welfare Decoration - for services regarding the welfare of the people...services like winter assistance, medical care, emergency aid, employment, etc...It comes in several ranks and I think this is rank 3...Rank 1 for generals, Rank 2 to high ranking officers Rank 3 Important people, Rank 4 first lieutenant downward.

Dont take my word for it but yours looks fake.

I suspected so as some of the gilt had cracked off. Many thanks for that information though. I have sent scans to a specialist in Nazi medals.

While killing some time this past Spring, a friend and I visited a gun show in Phoenix. I knew that Nazi medals were restruck, counterfeited, reproduced, duplicated, or whatever label you want to apply and I guess I had a good idea they could be found at gun shows. Wow, was I ever amazed at how many Nazi era medals are extant and for sale at a gun show! Now, I don't consider myself an expert on the medals of the period, but I do know the Hitler medals. There weren't many actual portrait medals on display, but the few that were were definitely reproductions (none labeled as such). Few of the other items appeared authentic either. Once in a while, I did see an item or two that struck me as genuine, but not very often.

Gun shows are great places to find all kinds of fake coins, medals, paper money etc. Consider that the primary target(forgive the pun) of gun shows are people interested in guns, not coins, medals etc. those are just an aside.

Does anybody here that knows about this stuff from this era know anything about these:



I found these in a small box that was my brother's, he collected Nazi coins etc. and must have gotten these along the way. They have "Winter Hilfswerk des Deutschen Volke" and the German Eagle on the reverse. These are tiny picture books with pictures of you know who with Mussolini etc. They measure about 1.5" * 2"

I have a catalog of the Winter Charity Works somewhere (in a box I think). The Winter charity produced a number of items including tokens, medals, porcelain dolls with pin backs in regional dress, small books such as yours, and a variety of other times. If I find the catalog, I'll look them up for you.
