This is the first coin I ever bought - it is only EF but it is a beautiful gun metal blue/grey and is a superb strike. It is rare to get the 4th step on the Parliament House steps.
It is one of Australia's most beautiful coins ever produced
Bluesfil
Reverse 1927 Florin Commemorative Opening of parliament House Canberra

I also have a choice Unc one with die cracks everywhere but this one always creates a soft spot
Bluesfil
Obverse 1927 Florin Coat of Arms - quite a hard coin in high grade
Bluesfil
Reverse 1927 COA

My favorite Italians

1801 30 Soldi (1 1/2 Lira), Cisalpine Republic

Very nice, elegant image.

Westfriesland 1596 rijksdaalder. It's my favorite coin to hold (a pocketful of these would just about immobilize you) and I also love the design.

I had a 1580 one of those but someone stole it about 6 years ago. cry.gif I loved that coin, and the person who gave it to me passed away a month after he did, and now some thief has it, and who knows where it might be! It makes me sad thinking about it. sad.gif

Not pretty, but HUGE:

Sweden 2 Daler Plat Mynt dated 1728 during the reign of King Frederick. This is currently my largest monetary instrument, debatable whether it could be called a coin or not.

how big is that thing?

About 190mm X 200mm. It weighs a couple of kilos I think. It weighs down my safe deposit box at one of my banks, it has a little brother 1 Daler too:

From the reign of Karl XII, bought it because it was made during the Great Northern War, and was one of the very few non token coins from the era 1715-1721 made in Sweden.

Here is another large fave:

Katangan cross ca. 19th century from Congo in Africa. This one is imaged actual size, for comparison see the Buffalo nickel I got in change last fall.

Another not pretty, but huge coin, this one is from Ptolemy IV in ancient Egypt. It measures 46mm in diametre or just shy of 2", and weighs in about 2.5 oz or so.

My largest British piece:

This Birmingham Hockey Puck weighs an astounding 3 Ozs, and was worth 3 Pence. There were plans for a copper sixpence, or tanner also, but plans were stopped because of the tremendous steam pressure needed to strike such a piece. This is the largest coin issued in Britain and actually circulated since the English Civil War.

A neat little acquisition from a fellow CP'er this spring, and one I have always wanted a nice one of. This penny was liberated from a NGC slab but had graded MS-64.
dustin43160
you know scottishmoney im ur bestest freind!!!

Sometimes simple is good, a simple coin, with a bit of heft thrown in for good measure, and thanks to our Portuguese friend that got me started on numismatics Portuguese style, the first of many many Portuguese lovelies in my collection.

Moldavia-Wallachia, now Moldova is close to home for my family.

My rotten daughter bought a Moldavian coin a couple of years ago for a pittance, so I had to have one too:

These things are HARD to find with details of the design, just ask Banivechi about them.

But sometimes you need some glitter in your collection, and this one is minted in San Francisco, it is my earliest SF mint coin.
Scottishmoney
I really loath modern USA coins, I think they are hideous(Unfortunately TR isn't resurrected yet) but I had to have this when they came out, my most current SF mint coin:

Scottishmoney
For some reason I do not yet have a lot of CC or Carson City coins, but I think I have some silver dollars somewhere in a bank, but this is one I know I have:

The most affordable CC coin around. Hopefully sometime soon I will acquire one of it's $20 Liberty cousins.
Scottishmoney
This SL Dollar was my earliest silver dollar until last year when Anne came into my life

Bought long before all the Chinese versions came out.
Scottishmoney
Without a doubt, probably my rarest coin, described in a 1968 Scottish coin catalog as unique, but now about 4 are known:

One I bought instead of a 14th century English noble that I found had too much clipping. What makes this Groat or fourpence of David II(1329-1371) so rare are the seven arcs in the tressure around the monarchs bust. These are normally seen with six arcs. One I have owned since I was a young punk, but not too cool to know a good coin when I saw it.

You have quite a few favs. lol. All I have to say is, if you ever want to sell that plate money give me a yell, I am fascinated by two things in general coin collecting, things that are HUGE and things that are small!

Here are a few more coins I really enjoy from my collection.

20 cent

flying eagle cent

shield nickel

a proof-like thaler, this reverse is my favorite of any coin, and is also very similar to my family crest on my fathers dads side. I even have a tattoo similar to that on my left calf; I have an inuit eagle on the right. smile.gif

love the double profile, and the eagle

this coins just really nice!

the eagle reminds me of old style Mexican coinage

one of the few rainbow coins I've ever owned, and I still wish it was blast white

i just like these
roaddevil

I start to realise the limitations of omni coin when you click on the Columbian medal, just a lovely piece that I would really like to appreciate in 600dpi+ scale.
