Interesting canceled coin from Yugoslavia. From what I understand, these were run through a machine that defaced them to make them monetarily worthless. I picked this one up from our own Blackhawk. Thanks Bill!

Not unlike the waffle cancels from the US state quarter program. MintErrorNews Current Issue Here has started to track the pricing on them. Well, either they just started or I never noticed before.

Neat! Such pieces were pretty common in much of Euroland a couple of years ago: The pre-euro coins went through a machine called "decoiner" so that they could be sold and transported as scrap metal. I have some decoined German Cu-Ni pieces; initially you could sometimes get them as free souvenirs, but later they were sold. You can still buy such ex-coins. smile.gif What I find particularly interesting about that Yugoslavian piece though is that it is almost 70 years old ...

I've got a few dutch "wafeled" pre-euro coins. These were given away by the Mint on their "open day"

Interestingly you can still see a lot of the design. Unlike the US waffle coins. Neat.
