For all that don't know my current venture, I was attempting to purchase a nice Xf-Unc (which I am looking for Au+ to Unc only now) 1918 FRN green eagle $1 note. Well, this link was one I was looking at, but the price went too high for the grade, so I never bid. But then I noticed the one who won the auction had 1 feedback, and it was from the person selling this note, and the person selling also had his 10th and newest feedback from the person who won this auction. It ended today at 9am, feedback was left at 11am, and this is why I hate dealing with ebay, you never know if someone is just shilling you for more money, trying to increase the price of what they are selling. It's dishonest and really urks me when i see this happen, which is far too often lately.

Yeah, it's a dirty little world on eBay. I actually thought of you when I bid on this note (I only bid a buck ten and was immediately outbid). Needless to say I didn't think the note was worth $150!

For sure!!!! I hate when you get a Second chance offer 5 minutes later. Owner raising the bid and then offering to sell it like someone wouldnt pay.

All I can say is patience rewards those whom are diligent. Besides I would hold out for a better example, it is a note that you can find nice examples of fortunately. Myself, sometime I would like a 1923 SC, I want a nice raw unencapsulated in some TPG holder note that is crisp uncirculated. But I will not buy it on the 'Bay, but at a show.

Here is an example of a note I have personally been looking for and only very recently obtained:





It is a very popular note with collectors because of the lovely reverse design, and the association of having been designed by Alfons Mucha(1860-1939) a Czech artist whom is largely responsible for having initiated the Art Nouveau movement of the late 19th century and early 20th century. It is popular with banknote collectors as well as art afficionados, of which I am both. Most of the examples of these that show up are either circulated or canceled with SPECIMEN or NEPLATNE perforated in the note. I have not seen a nice example at a show, and have been on ebay for literally a year looking at these.

One of the problems with this note is that the Pick catalog is way out of line on an actual price for the note, the price being much lower than in reality. Usually the price is higher than reality. With this note being popular on many fronts and even being sold on art sites, the real price is much higher than catalog. However eBay being a fickle and un-estimable venue I have seen these notes in uncirculated go from anywhere from $17 on up to over $80. The average price is about $47 over a period of a year. When I saw this one there happened to have been a couple of closed auctions on these within the week prior to it's closing so demand then was lowered and I got it for $31.00. Now if I can find the 50 Korun from 1929 in uncirculated, and the 100 Korun 1920(Slavia note) I will be a happy collector.

That's a nice changeover pair, but for $400+ I'd have to pass. I need to get a nice unc 23 at some point though, luckily they are still reasonable for the most part. The unc green eagle, I can hopefully get for less than $250, the one I'm watching now is an Au, maybe 60-61 though, hard to tell when it's not in hand, anyway, it's at one day and still under 200, granted the last 5 minutes are when most of the real bids happen.

Nice note Scottishmoney, I agree with being patient, moreso than just buying one to fill the whole. I did that with the dime in my draped bust set, and haven't been able to off it, and get a better one since I got it, lol. I don't entirely regret the purchase, I would just rather have a Vg+ instead to match the other coins in the set. As for notes that are hard to find nice and well priced, non-US, for me was the 1910 German 100 mark, it took me a year but I located 9 unc sequential order notes with the original envelope and letter from a small town 5 minutes from my house! Funny thing is, the stamps date from 1922, but the notes are 1910, meh.

Well, I would expect that changeover pair fairly valued would approach $1000 (the last one sold on Heritage went for over $1,300), so $400 looks pretty darn cheap to me!

Very much so, it's always very tempting to bid again because the seller was so polite. It's the "he was polite, and made me feel special, and I wouldn't mind dealing with him" kind of attitude, which is rare on ebay.

As for the price of the changeover pair, although I can't see myself paying that for it, I'm sure it would make a great investment. Currently though, my little to no assets are tied into that green eagle.

Yeah... I was in the whole Beanie Baby thing a few years back (still have a couple worth $200 10 years ago worth > $10 now... -.-), and had problems then, when these things didn't really come in grades, not like I really cared about condition at age 10, you know...

Anywhoo, the moral of the story is no eBay for me; I'm too poor to risk losing money via the Internet too often, and I'm wayyy too picky for two photos to suffice.

Not trying to dissuade anyone from using eBay, it's a really good source for finding my long lost Treasure Rocks in any case, but I'm one of those people who doesn't know enough about coin auctions to try anytime soon.

My wife collected them too, the only one that has any value is the Princess Diana bear that was signed to her by the actor Jeff Daniels when she was in the hospital a few years ago. She used to babysit for him when he was a struggling actor.

Wow! How cool! The only ones I have are the Old Face Nip and Zip and the All Black Zip... can't bear to part with them now that I've spent so much on them... and they're so cute!

Ours is a lot better than eBay. At least here I have never had to leave a negatory. On eBay I think I have left 6, all for non-pays.

Wow, do you do a lot of selling on eBay? My mother has 350+ feedback and has never left/received a negative.

I don't do as much as I used to, and all the negs were left over 5 years ago I think. I still sell very occasionally, usually extras that don't sell here.
