Does anyone know anything at all about this coin? Or about the Union that had it minted?

Russian Imperial Union

Basically this organisation sponsors Prince George as a contender for the restoration of the Russian monarchy. He is descended from the surviving branch of the Romanov family. He has toured Russia, but realistically the possibility of the restoration of the Russian monarchy is very very slim.

Thank you Scottishmoney for the information and the link. This is facinating.

However, I think you are right that the chances of restoring monarchy in Russia are very slim indeed, even if it were a prliamentary monarchy, such as in England.

But then, stanger things have happened. There are some interesting things happening between the Orthodox Church in Russia and the Synod outside Russia, but that's not a coin topic.

Here is a much more affordable one (but just 1 oz., not 2):

I suppose these are from the Soviet equivalent of the U.S. "Franklin Mint"??

Hi Bob, and thank you for your post.

The first one I posted was the 1oz version. I found the 2 oz later and was astonished by its price. Needless to say I doubt very much anyone would bid on it at that price. I did get the 1 oz a few weeks ago because I was intrigued by it, and wanted to know more about it.

However it does not seem to be a Soviet coin. When I first saw it, I thought it might have been ordered by, or produced for a Russian Emigre' organisation, of which there were many at one time in Paris, London, and the US, and which eventually became less and less active as time went by. But I did not know for sure.

The link that Scottishmoney referred me to showed that this Monarchist organisation is now based in New Jersey, and is still quite active with renewed hope since the changes in Russia.

The seller of 2 oz. silver Ruble does not know what he is doing. Asking $3K for $150 coin ... He could just ask a million bucks as well. hysterical.gif I have this same kind in pure gold for $800 (1 oz. of pure gold, mintage of 100 pieces), comes in its box. Maya, if you want it in gold pls. contact me via personal messages. This is not actually a coin but a medal. But since it has denomination written on it (word "Ruble"), it become listed in Bruce catalogue of unusual world coins.

Best regards,

The seller did not have any takers for $3,000, so they relisted for $2,999.00 or best offer. rolleyes.gif

Do I dare offer $150.00 for it or would that be too insulting to the seller? biggrin.gif
