A friend of mine recently found this coin. It looks very much like the Indonesian coins, in the time of colonisation by The Netherlands. However, the legends and date are not matching up. The style is very similar though.

1404 in the Islamic calendar would be about 1985 in our Christian calendar.

Does anyone know the historical background on this coin/token?

Seems to be token or playmoney.

Gave to read Arab inscription to my fellow. Hes says it means approximately the same as Latin on the top of the obverse.

I'm going to say it's a [privately made] token/medallion as well. Maybe something that's thrown/given out at weddings?
