I find that a little tarn-ex and a brillo pad work best.

Welcome to the forum Lucille from a UK collector
Please ignore the above comment, he was joking

Also please do not clean any coins, if you do you will totaly ruin any value that coin has. Honestly that looks like great toning

You are a very very bad man for saying that.
I think the toning looks fine, don't change a thing. Is the front/obverse toned in a similar manner?

Welcome here, Lucille.
Whether that toning is attractive or ugly, is just a mater of tase. Some people like it, other's (like you and me) don't.
Whatever you like, cleaning a coin makes it usually worthless to a collector. If the coin is legal circulating tender, only the face value will remain.

Many collectors would much rather see that nice natural rainbow toning. If you clean the coin, any experienced collector that looks at it will know it's been cleaned regardless of what you use or how careful you are.
Anything you do to the coin will negatively affect the coin surface even if it is shinny in the end. This is why most will advise against any cleaning. The damage done may only be noticeable under magnification (at first). Depending on what you use, days, weeks or months later the coin develop spotting, discoloration, or very bad toning (black or dark brown) that will look ten times worse than it does now.
Absolute Dont's:
- Do Not use tarnish removers
- Do Not use harsh chemicals - that pretty much includes all chemicals
- Do Not use soap of any kind
- Do Not use Tap Water - If you are going to rinse a coin - wear clean rubber gloves and use pure distilled water over plastic container (just in case you drop it) - dab dry with soft cotton cloth only if the coin does not have a mirrored surface - see note below
- Please - Do not rub, brush, or scrub a coin with anything... (Unless it's a uncleaned ancient coin caked in a 1000 years of dirt.)
- Do Not breath, cough, or sneeze on any coin that's collectible - it will ruin the coin.
- Fingerprints do not come off - EVER - and only look worse over time.
- Mirrored Surfaces practically get scratched just looking at them - anything that touches them will result in damage that will be visible to the eye.
When handling coins it is best to wear cotton gloves and handle the coin by the rim only.
I mean these comments to help you, please do not think that this is anything other than information for you to help keep your coins looking the best they can.
If you really insist on doing anything to the coin, take it to an experienced dealer. They should be trained in coin restoration (not that this coin needs any IMO) and will know how best to remove the toning (if you can talk them into it).
Good Luck and Welcome

Of course you realize that Tarn-X is a brand name and there are numerous other jewlry cleaners out there that work even better. Ignor those that want you to preserve coins. I feel the more that are ruined by people cleaning some makes the ones I have more valuable. Now if you really want to make that coin shine, try some battery acid. Leave it in that for a few days and presto, no more ugly stuff on the coin. Now if that coin is Silver or Gold go to a chemical supply house and buy some stuff called Aqua-Regia for cleaning those type of coins. The more you clean, the more mine are worth.
Regardless of what people may say you can always sell that coin for face value unless you do use the acid of course.
All of the above was not intended for coin collectors.

Of course you all can just think I am being mean, but if this is the same Lucille from the PCGS boards, she is a collector of some of the most amazingly beautiful toned Franklins I've ever seen!

I agree and I'm pretty sure it is the same Lucille. Was reading the boards today and then came here to see the topic. She also has some pretty awesome cars!
Thought to myself "man, that color pattern looks very familiar".

But since she wants to clean it, I'll make her a deal. Send me that nasty Franklin and I'll send you a white one. K?

Welcome here also. However, I still think you should get all that stuff of those coins. Now if you don't like my battery acid suggestion, try Vinegar in a Aluminum pan and boil the coins in that over a stove. Of course you could try a little Tarn-X on that ugly reddish looking car to get rid of that bright discoloration.
Always remember the more you distroy, the more you help others so clean those coins.
