U.S.A. gold certificate, an inverted trial/ essay/ experiment of a $50 series of 1922, Grant at centre, yellow seal at left, 50 at right , Speelman-White signatures
(cf P.276 for type), threaded paper and the design on obverse and reverse inverted, unusual and very rare

Is it really an inverted trial / essay / experimental note as stated in Spink Auction. It looks more like an error note than a trial, experimental.... blink.gif

I can't imagine it would be a trial, why would they bother creating non-inverted plates to print this? I don't even think it's an error because of that. My guess is someone was messing around at the BEP (if it existed then) and had this thing created.

I can't believe that the estimate is only £ 300-500!!!!

I would think it would be higher

I can't imagine how it would have occurred accidentally, and yes, the BEP has been printing US Currency since the 19th century, so this would have been all on them!
