The Russian bug took hold after I bought that 1841 commemorative Medal of the Marriage of Nicholas 1 son Alexander to Theresa.

I have been quietly buying up Russian coins and came across some small oval shaped silver coins that I have since been informed are "wire kopeks".
From what I have been able to read up on the coins mainly date from Ivan the Terrible and his two successors.

I would welcome any information on the topic.

G'day. I'm not an expert on wire kopeks as I never collected them until Scottishmoney dangerously sent me two and sparked SOME interest in me laugh.gif

I'm not too sure if it's Ivan the terrible but it seems more like Peter I. I'm sure Tane or others will be able to tell something (yes Tane, I have been noticing your secret uploading of wire kopeks grin.gif )

You might be able to get more ideas from Basok's site http://www.rustypennies.com/catalog/russian_wire_coins.html

Thanks for that I had a quick look and you appear to be on the mark with Peter 1.
I will have a good look when I get home from work tonight
