Full Version: Even common Imperial russian silver coins are counterfeited

CoinPeople.com > Specialized Numismatic Forums > Russian Coin Forums

Something you should watch out - common imperial russian counterfeit coins don't normally pop up until now and looks like it will pop up more often:

Weight stated is 19.2g versus 20.73g of an original. (a big slipoff obviously)

With such surfaces, it shouldn't be too hard that it's a cast copy or some sort.

I saw the pictures of even more common coin. For example, 1/4 kopecks 1900.

Rarities are always a target for counterfeiters, but even cheap coins offer profit potential (and are less likely to be examined closely).

WOW Cherburgen, you wouldn't happened to have a picture of that would you? That's pretty suprising!

The same seller also had another 1833 rouble:

He has also recently sold the following fakes:

1749 Moscow rouble
1729 rouble

You know guys, maybe it's wrong, but if I see that a seller is located in China, I immediately close the page grin.gif Has anybody ever bought a good genuine Russian imperial coin from China? (I doubt...) smile.gif

There is this little song I wrote
I hope you learn it note for note
Like good little children
Don't worry, be happy
Listen to what I say
In your life expect some trouble
But when you worry
You make it double
Don't worry, be happy......
Don't worry don't do it, be happy
Put a smile on your face
Don't bring everybody down like this
Don't worry, it will soon past
Whatever it is
Don't worry, be happy

I don't know if this fits your definition of "good" or not:

1896-* Poltina, from Hong Kong

It is only about VF-20 grade, but the rims are OK and it has otherwise no problems. And not terribly expensive either, considering that only about 200,000 were struck. biggrin.gif

But this is my only purchase from China, except for some DVDs. (It's amazing how many hard-to-find things there are on DVD over there, if you like classical music.)
