In my mind I've always prnounced the name of the artist and creator of numerous medals, Daniel Dupuis, as Du-p-wah. But at the show this week a dealer said it should be Du-pwee. Is that correct you French medal collectors out there?

The French word for "then" is "puis" if I remember correctly. We pronounced it "pwee." So basing my judgement off of that... I'd say Dupwee

My first thought was "pro-noun-see-ate-ion-of-du-pwee" when I saw this thread.

If the name was spelled Dupois, it would sound like "du-p-wah". But Dupuis is "du-p-wee" indeed. With a French "u", so: /dy'pɥi/

One time a friend of mine talked about some supposedly famous German whose name she pronounced like "Night-ski" or so. Turned out she was referring to Friedrich Neets-shay.
