I have bought a novelty collection a couple of month ago. It were 1943 Lincolns + 2 Francs from Belgium + a kind of war-propaganda-picture, that fits into a plastic coinflip (4x2).

Well, I bought a lot of those, so I would be sure to have a complete set of pictures.

Now I have a lot of Lincolns laying around, which are all circulated. My question is now: Is there anything special to look for in them? I've checked coppercoins, but don't find to many of varieties for that one, especially cos they are all Phili's. (quite normal, since the Belgian coins where minted there too)

I will try to make some pictures of these sets later today. If anyone has more information on those, it's more than welcome.

Jos

That's so cool!

That's a really neat piece you have there. Is the coin really that color of blue?
belg_jos
Yes. I have this slight feeling (call it a hunch), that these have been recoated. They look too new. It would fit nicely in this scheme. Commercialising these is not easy. So you'd better make them look as shiny as you can.

It has a very 'homemade' feel.

Just a hunch, untill the truth is known biggrin.gif

I remember when I first started collecting and came upon a Littleton catalogue (a mail-order coin dealer that has lots of novel coins, the basics, and maybe a few nice things), I saw some shiny and lusterous steelies they were selling and just had to have them. They were recoated and in hindsight its obvious as all. But what the hey, I was a newbie and they made me happy.

Same here. I have bought my share of shiny junk, and I still do tongue.gif

I have a few Steelies that are still shiny. How can I tell if the have been re-coated?
LostDutchman
well truely unc zinc wheaties aren't very shiny at all.... they kind of have a hazy luster to them.. if they are bright and shiny like a trombone or something.... they have been replated.

Ah, ok. These have a bit of a sheen on them, oh well. I only paid about a dollar each for them 10 years ago when I was into collecting.

I like them more as curiosities than as "value pieces" anyway.

Do you have any links that compare pictures? How would I get one that was unc but not replated, buy certified?
LostDutchman
buying certified coins is usually a good bet.. depending on the company....

here is one in pcgs 67

they should have the chartwheel luster.... not just flat brassy...

Ah, well the luster on these is distinctly cartwheel.

I guess that's good!

Hey Jos!

I've got the package right here on my desk. You did such a great job with the tape that I will have to get a jackhammer and open it tomorrow... after this night of lots of school work....

Thanks again! Can't wait to see inside.

Well, I have the habit of packing my goods very well, so they don't get lost.

Hope you like what's in there smile.gif
