Australia's elite special forces troopers have been immortalised on a silver coin that depicts them in a combat pose.

Launched on Monday at the Special Air Service (SAS) headquarters in Perth, the 7,500 commemorative coins, issued by the Perth Mint, celebrate the unit's 50th anniversary.

Struck from one ounce of 99.9 per cent pure silver, one side of the coin depicts SAS troopers in action and bears the SAS badge and motto: "Who Dares Wins".
