hiho
Here is my 1692... banana.gif (sorry squirrel, no wigs, pretty nice crown though)

I'm out until 1678, at which time I will present a West Friesland ship shilling. Pretty worn, but the date is great! yahoo.gif
frank
I think we were posting at the same time. I think on this thread, we need to keep up the momentum when we get it. On to more 1692's if anyone has more ..
Vajaho
Good work folks,

You really did it.

First Hungarian coin, I assume in the line?

Enjoy:

15 krajcár (kreutzer), Ag, with Leopold I, The Hogmouth, from the Habsburg Dynasty, and a much nicer Madonna with the Child, the emblem of Hungary.

frank

Here's another 1692, a jeton from Bourgogne, with a reference to how Louis XIV, the Sun, will help Burgundy --the bent-over stalks of wheat-- rise anew. Someone also scratched a good "M" into it...

Brunswick Luneburg Celle 1/3rd taler

frank
Okay. I'm going to put my 1691 here, and if anyone still wants to post another 1692, hiho will go back and fix the order!~ smile.gif

1691 H (La Rochelle) demi-écu aux huit L of Louis XIV. Someone scratched poor Louis across the nose.
Ian
.....and onwards a year with a 1690 William and Mary 40 shillings Scots. Low grade, but difficult to find any better.

hiho
I'm pretty impressed that we had four great coins from different countries for 1692, that doesn't happen often.

Nice coins for 1691 and 1690 too.

Who will take us into the next decade with a 1689?

Won't be me, I'm out until 1678. But I'll be watching... shok.gif

It is nice seeing it move along like this in the 1600's and the range.
ElleKitty
Alright, just another 1690 coin, but I wanted to post it before we moved into the next decade!
James II, in exile, Gunmoney from May. biggrin.gif

OK, lets get going. Here's a 1689 silver rupee of Muhammad Aurangazeb Alamgir, minted at Akbarnagar in year 31 of his reign

porthos
The first year of Jahangir's reign was 1658 (he ruled for 48 years) so his 31st year would be 1658+30 = 1688. smile.gif
But who's complaining....
By the way, nice coin.
worldcoinguy
Lets continue this march backwards with a german state taler from cologne (koln) dated 1688. This is a 1 year type issued to commemorate the empty seat (sede vacante) after the death of Maximilian Heinrich of Bavaria who was the Archbishop of Cologne from 1650 to 1688.

frank
That is an awesome coin. ohmy.gif

Here's a 1687 1 gulden from Deventer, in the Netherlands. I'll hold off on my 1686 for a while.

Duh. unsure.gif oooops! I must have transposed the numerals at some point and never noticed my error (ie 1689 instead of 1698). smile.gif

in the interim here's a silver jeton of Monsieur de Fourcy, Lord mayor of Paris issued for his second term in office 1687

Art
Great coins. I'm jealous.

And I like the dogs on the reverse of that Monsieur de Fourcy Ian...

Wow! some of these coins are fabulous!!

The Dogs on either side of the coat of arms remind me of the Sables on (much later, 1764-81) Siberian copper.

banivechi
XV Krajczar 1686, Hungary.
marianne
Westfriesland daalder of 30 stuivers. Tilt your head 30 degrees to the left to view the reverse correctly. doh.gif

This is one of my favorite coins for its tactile qualities. It fits perfectly in my palm, is smooth, and has a nice weight.

hiho
Nice one Marianne, I'm bidding on a gorgeous 1622 West Friesland Taler on eBay that I hope to add to this thread.

Probably not the best person to tell though... doh.gif

A while back, I swore to myself that I wouldn't buy any more coins until I'd sold some. I've avoided temptation by staying away from active auction listings. But... a couple of days ago, I peeked. And the very coin you mention immediately caught my eye. It's the only item on my watch list.

I will be strong. Really. Hiho, you are -- in the nicest possible way -- my nemesis. biggrin.gif

Nemesis is such a misunderstood word.

If you want the 1622 Westy I will bow out without a wimper or a moan, but one day, when there is a coin that I REALLY want, you must do the same.
OK? And of course if you win the 1622 you have to post it here. No excuses. You have 60 years.

PS - The seller seems honest on all counts and when are you going to see one like this again? Sell me one of your coins and bid on this!

(Remember I won't be bidding against you...)(grin.gif)

Good point! I do have some magpie in me, but the coins I want to sell are mostly dupes. My excuse for procrastinating has been my mediocre macro photography skills.

See? Nemesis.

That's a very kind offer, even if you're undermining my moral fiber. But I have an idea. I'll send you a pm.

Meanwhile... we're still waiting for a 1685. smile.gif
banivechi
Nearest I have is 1681.
Mark Stilson
Just a bump to try to keep this up.

ElleKitty
We're still waiting on an 1685 coin, yes? help.gif
Mark Stilson
This one may be tough. I only spotted one coin on Omnicoin listed as 1685. Unless someone has a separate site this one may take a little bit.
frank
I really didn't want to post this one, since it's corroded and the date isn't clear. But if you look really hard, you can see it really is a 1685 : MDCLXXXV on the reverse. (And I know that this jeton is a 1685 from Feuardent's catalogue: 1685 Trésor Royal, F 1919.)

SUFFICIT NEC DEFICIT: "it is sufficient and never runs out" -- the Royal Treasury is likened to an inexhaustable fountain. Perhaps this was only wishful thinking, since Louis XIV's wars kept emptying the coffers...
Mark Stilson
I like it. The range of coins, tokens, and jetons has been fantastic to see. 1684 may be another hard year. Two showed up on Omnicoin one owned by HKMAL and one by Sylvester. 1683 is a pretty nice year for omnicoin.
hiho
I like it too, nice jeton Frank.
If this thread has done anything it's made me look at jetons in an entirely new light.

Still ready with 1678...and looking forward to an interesting 1684.
Ian
Here's another jeton from 1685, this one struck in silver and issued for the `Parties Casuelles'

Ian
ElleKitty
Can't stop here! We've come so far already. And, I've got 1681, 1667, & 1624 that I want to show.
Ian
OK. Time to put you guys out of your misery. Here's a 1684: a french silver jeton issued for the `ordinaire des guerres paparell tresor' (army treasury)

Here's a couple of 1683 jetons

The first was issued for the Brittany Estates (local government of Brittany region of France). It is actually a 1683 /1 but the scan doesn't pick it up very well

The second is a 1683 copper jeton issued for the `batimens du Roi' (kings buildings)

hiho
Ian, that second jeton is a real beauty. shok.gif

1682 anyone?
Ian

I like it but it's not one of my favourites. This one however is!

A nice `city view' of Paris. A silver jeton dated 1682 and issued to mark the third term in office of the then Mayor of Paris.

I'll duck out now for the next few decades to give someone else a chance smile.gif

Ian
ElleKitty
1681, silver 6 Groschen, Duke Frederick William of Prussia. The coin is a bit grainy on the surface, which is why the picture looks grainy as well.

frank
OK, I'll post another well-worn portrait of Louis XIV! Got to keep this going... I think Ian could probably do the 17th century all by himself, but he's trying to give everyone else a chance, and/or just doesn't want to be posting every day!

1680 jeton of Louis XIV -- "post bella triumphus" with Fame crowning someone in his war chariot, I don't know who; I haven't been able to find a catalogue description of this coin.
hiho
I'm chomping at the bit for a 1679 to show up so I can finally post my 1678. bhyper.gif

Oh, and Ian, that is one beautiful 1682 Paris city view silver jeton.
I'll be happy to take it off you hands should you ever tire of it...

Hate to see anyone chewing up their bit.

1679 jeton of Louis XIV: TEMPL PACIS. The king receives the tribute of three allegorical figures bearing palms. Probably made in Nuremberg.

Thanks Frank.

Here's my 1678, a Netherlands Silver Ship Shilling (say that three times fast) from West Friesland.
Well circulated with quite a bit of wear, but a difficult date.

If anyone has another 1679 I'll be happy to slide my contribution to keep things in chronological order.
