Again there is a tempting 5kop1770EM offered at eBay - because the eagle is intriguing. Is it the rare 1763-1767 eagle (Bitkin R1, Diakov R3), or is it the common 1769 - 1778 eagle? http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...p;rd=1&rd=1 Some time ago I bought a similar one at eBay, expecting it to be the old (rare) eagle type. But when I had it in my hand, it turned out be be closer to the common new eagle type. My wife, not a collector, found that at first glance, too. See the link, my coin is embedded between the rare old eagle and the common new eagle. Pictures courtesy Mr. Diakov. Doesn't my coin in the middle look like the one above? But if you have it before you, it is closer to the coin below. Mystery!! Sigi

The photos seem to say, in my opinion, that the middle coin is the same as the one above. The problem, however, is that the eagles were made up of several small hubs (punches) and it is possible that some of the punches designed for the earlier eagle were also used on the later one.
