Funny enough I believe I saw this "coin" or token somewhere else. I believe it is a token although it's rather unusual I must say.

Appears to be a 19th century counter or gaming token with an image borrowed from a USA $20 gold piece and the reverse is a monogramme.

I would agree, most definitely a gaming token or merchant-like token. I could swear I've seen it before as well and may have, I've certainly seen similar items. I just don't know that particular field well enough to point you in the right place.
