I am a newbie here, and to coin collecting. To start my collection, I recieved as a CHristmas present a small number of Morgan silver dollars, and would like to correspond with others who enjoy this hobby. Thanks to the admins for their hard work in maintaining this site.

On the reverse beneath the bow of the wreath and just above the D and the O in dollar. In this image it is the letter S from the 1893 S Morgan Dollar.

It looks like three have no mint mark, one has an "S" and the others are "O"'s. Are any more valuable than the others? P.S. I love Jack Elam!!

But watch out, Morgan Dollars are only a "gateway drug". Pretty soon you will want to start getting Peace Dollars, and the Franklin Half Dollars. Soon copper will catch your eye and Wheat Cents and Indian Head cents will occupy your thoughts.

Before you know it, you have a U.S. Type Set and then you are hooked for good.

Ha! I can quit anytime I want, really I can. I think I can. well, uh.. Is there a "Coin Collectors Anonymous"? Actually, I already have a healthy addiction to guitars. I have yet to shake that "Monkey". Thanks for the URL's Andy, they are very informative, and a big help!

Morgan dollars are really fun to collect. Especially if you want to get into VAMs and stuff.

What does "VAM" stand for?

One of the first US coins I got was a morgan dollar from my great grandmother, about 15 years ago now. I really wanted to put together a set after that but much older coins got my attention, lucky for me my birthdays and xmas gifts supplied enough money to keep me occupied back then! Now, I'm 23 and still haven't even finished a morgan dollar year set! Haha! I think I have collectors ADHD! But, a year set is a really fun way to start a rather inexpensive Morgan dollar set, unless you settle for nothing less than MS (mintstate)....then you can be talking $30+ a coin!

But don't stop at just morgans, there are all kinds of coins to collect, US and non-US alike, they are all great as long as you have fun doing it!
