It almost appears to be going semi-bracteate, but with a reverse that fit into the obverse.

I have a soft spot for the coins of this era. I like the portraits, as simple as they are.

These still have about a gram on bracteates smile.gif
Actually the Rhineland and Westfalia kept the penny even during the hight of the bracteates although usually quite debased.
