Now that is really nice.

I think the price of patterns, in comparison to their rarity, are very cheap. I wish I could afford a couple of em.

Exactly. But please keep this secret on the down low. One of my goals for the next year is to land my first pattern. I've been drooling over them for years.

I actually brought my 1959 copy of Judd's book on vacation with me so I can study up.
Burks
I didn't know an aluminum pattern of that even existed. Neat!
Art
That's a fantastic set.

I would like to remind everyone that I collect aluminum coins, tokens, and medals. I do not yet have one of those sets in my collection. So......... if someone wondered about getting me a Christmas present??????

I will happily pay the postage.

Hmm... an aluminium dollar...

Very cool set that I'd love.

Wow. That's very cool.

I might just have to view that lot.... I doubt i'll bid on it... but it never hurts to look...

Bid is already $26,000 and the lot isnt up for auction for another few weeks.

Anyone have a guess at what it will bring for the full set?

11 bidders - still unsold. The reserve must've been too high.

You can buy it for $172,500.

I am really surprised. If I had the money, I'd seriously consider buying that set - the coins by themselves could probably have gone for more total.

I've been collecting US coins for 27 years and I never knew these patterns existed. What a great hobby... always something new to learn.

Just a reminder that back in 1868 aluminum was considered far too expensive for coinage. It cost more per ounce than silver or gold.
