Full Version: Westfalen Coin Exhibits
I've stumbled upon possibilities at the Bochum Uni and at the Hellweg museum Unna to see some medieval German coins on exhibit in NRW. Does anyone happen to know of any other good places to visit? Maybe in Paderborn or Hoexter as I will probably need to go there anyway.

The major German-language "Münzkabinett" collections - Vienna, Berlin, Dresden - are not exactly close to where you plan to go.
Here in North Rhine Westphalia there is a state collection/Münzkabinett in Bonn and another one in Münster:http://www.lwl.org/LWL/Kultur/Landesmuseum...mmlung/muenzen/

As for Paderborn, well, I was there a few weeks ago to see the great "Canossa" exhibition (which ended earlier this month); they had a couple of coins there too. We did not have the time or energy to do much else in the city though.
Seems there is a coin collection in the City History Museum:http://www.paderborn.de/microsite/adam_eva/sammlungen.php
Judging from what I read there, the Academic Library of the Diocese http://www.eab-paderborn.de/ also seems to have quite a few coins. Now whether any of these are on display or whether you need to arrange a visit, I don't know ...

ohhh THANKS! I didn't know any of that either! Some of those are fairly close to Aachen and Geilenkirchen. i must go too!

. I'll actually be visiting my sister in Bonn so we might all be able to go to that museum. It looks like I have a full itineraria for my 8 days as long as I don't get too distracted with all the eating and drinking

(The actual discovery site, near Düsseldorf, has an interesting museum too, but that guy is in Bonn.) As for the coin collections in those museums and particularly universities, it may be good idea to contact them first and ask what is on display. For security reasons, quite a few coin cabinets can be visited by appointment only.Christian

Das werde ich tun. I actually wrote to the Bochum uni but our email was down yesterday so I'm wndering if I may have lost a response. I suppose once I have an itinerary I should call. I know have to go to Essen-Steele to pick up a book
