What is the highest you have ever paid for one single coin? (Pics are welcome).
My highest coin came with a $470 pricetag, and it's not even going to be mine. It's a GIFT!!!

I think my 2nd highest is around $140.
Doesn't matter if it cost $.05 or $5,000. I'm just curious to see what people's limits are. Mine used to be $100 dollars and that didn't happen very often. In reality it was the $20-$30 range. Now I've broken all my limits more than once.

"Holey moley" Tiff, I am cheap cheap cheap. Most I have paid is about 5.00. Would have been 33.00 but the deal fell through because of "postal problems". How can I find a spot on your gift list, maybe we are related way, way back. You know ancestors from perhaps cave days or........ Never mind.

Dear daggit, it is not important that your most expensive coin is $5. I never used to pay more than $50 for anything. Like I said, this one was a gift. My Mommy loves gold and I love my Mommy.

Well i don't usually list prices i've paid for things but since you specifically asked, then the most i've ever paid out would be $1800. (Which for me is a heck of alot, usually i try and stay well below the $1000 mark).
Oh and Tiff... nice coin!

Wow. I would say I would never spend that much but in the past I said I wouldn't spend over $100 and when I passed than I said nothing over $200-$300. And yeah, well I'm past that now....

Against face value for a currency coin....as you guys call raw I paid 91,200 X face value....ouch....

.
I don't really think too hard...if I see a coin I want and the funds are there I will go for it.
I do bear in mind resale with the bigger boys....my wife trusts me.
I've just pursuaded my mother to add $2000 of gold to her assets rather than plonk it in some bank paying 3%.
She thinks she's getting Krugs or sov's

I wonder how she will react to a nice James 1 Unite.

Gold is an exceeding violiate "investment" material. It is a fact whether you want to deny it or not, that war and stablity that solely have to do a lot with the pricing of gold. And it is up to you to interpret if the war in Iraq is to end any sooner or later. But honestly, in my humble opinion, assuming that the war wouldn't last much longer, now is one of the difficult time to buy gold and stock it up.
If you like, you can check this useful homepage,
http://www.kitco.com and check under "charts & datas" and check all the historical chart. Of course, the pricing of gold is just a short 40 year history, but it has enough data to tell you how it is like.

Mercury Dime 1916D XF-40 PCGS $2450.
American Silver Eagle 1995W PR69DCAM PCGS $2550.

If memory serves, I think it was about $450 for a US $20 Saint.
My self-imposed "limit" is $500 ... but that's gonna change if I can find a NIIIIIICE Gothic Crown

I believe the vast majority of my stuff falls into the "less than $50" category.

Not cash, but a trade. A '72 Dodge Charger, tricked to the max, for a PCGS MS60FB '16d Merc. The car has since been totaled, and the Merc. has appreciated $2700.

My most expensuve was your Gothic. What did we decide it was? 95 Euro? That was around $200? I've already forgotten!

Normally, the coins I buy are a tenth that much or even less.

Why on earth would Ætheling sell a Gothic Florin for euros??????
And at that time, a euro was about the same value as a dollar, so I guess it must have been 95 pounds...

See! That is how bad I am with remembering how much I paid for any coin!

We had this discussion over on Coin Community and it took us forever to figure it out and I have already messed it up again! It had to be pounds, I am sure. In a month I will probably think I paid 175 francs for it.

THe most ever for a single coin was $1200 for an old Spanish Trail commem half.
The most ever for a note was $6000 for a 1934 dark green Boston star note $1000 bill.
The most "total" for coins in one stop-- I just paid $2000 a few weeks ago for 84 Morgan dollars. I've already sold $1000 worth and hope to sell the rest this week and probably make a bit. Sadly almost all of them are cleaned, but they are nice 1879 8tf, 1880, 1888s, 1898 etc

I didn't keep it long. I bought a new truck with most of it as I sold it to a dealer for cash and broke even. I used some bonus money to buy it which was silly. I learned to keep coins a hobby and keep my properties as investments not coins. Don't mix the two.
Coins=fun hobby for me, not investement. Though I don't want to take a bath on a coin.

5300 for the VF 1794 half that I pictured in the thread on half dollar type sets. I have crossed the 4 figure mark several times for different Overton varieties. This past winter I placed my first 5 figure bid on a coin but wasn't lucky enough to win it. (Or I was lucky enough NOT to win it!)

Im sorry to say the most I paid for a coin was about 10X what I should have.
I think it was something like $45 + $10 shipping for an undated ~ 95% off center lincoln.
I dont regret it though, That was the reason I started teaching myself about coins. I learned more and more and got more interested and now I have a whole collection.
An undated off center lincoln is prob still my most frequent buy on ebay.... but only pay no more than $5 shipped.
