I was at a flea market yesterday and found the Coin World Coin Trivia Game (made in 1985 I guess). Every week I'll post questions from a Novice card and Expert card. There are no winners in this game, just for fun! After a week I'll post the answers to each of the questions. Have fun!

NOVICE:

#1. Of what allow were cents from 1944-1946 composed?
#2. What portrait appears on all coins of Andorra?
#3. Treasury notes of 1890-91 are also known as what other type of notes?
#4. Harrold E. Hibler and Charles V. Kappen cataloged what medals in a 1963 book?
#5. What mint marks have been used on 40 percent silver coinage of the United States?
#6. Where is home for Krause Publications?

EXPERT:

#1. Who designed the Albany, NY Charter commemorative half dollar?
#2. The trisceles is used as the arms on the coins of what countries?
#3. Who appears on the 1890 $1 Treasury note?
#4. How many U.S. Assay Commission medals depict George Washington?
#5. To what cabinet officer did the U.S. Mint report in 1794?
#6. What was the name of the pioneer numismatic magazine published by Eben Mason Jr.?

I went through about 30 cards yesterday and barely knew any of the answers. Some of these are really hard or the events happened before I was born. Kind of fun to just go through.

I only knew N1.

N5 - None (there were no mintmarks on any coins during the mid-60s when 40% silvers were minted... right?)

I wasn't considering myself a novice, but aparently I'm right about that but in a different way... blink.gif I'm not even a novice yet blink.gif

N2: At the time when the game was written, the answer to N2 was "Bishop Joan", but there is no such portrait on modern Andorran coins. smile.gif

E2: Do Sicily and the Isle of Man count as countries? (Hmm, maybe the latter ...)

For the novice I know all but #2, on the expert I only know #2 and #5.

I got N6. Its all the state has to offer. Krause, BlackHawk and the Green Bay Packers.

N2 - None, Andorra did not issue it's own currency, they used either Spanish or French coins
N3 - Coin Notes
N4- "So-Called Dollars", Commemorative and Exposition Medals
N5 - S, San Francisco
N6 - Iola, WI

They did indeed use French and Spanish coins, but nevertheless Andorra issued (diner and centims) coins, and still does. (Basically for collectors.) And the man depicted on the older pieces is Bishop Joan of Urgell ...

It may not be what they were looking for, but it is correct. They worded the question wrong, they asked what the alloy was and not the source of the alloy.

Right. Note, however, that the discussion is not called "World Coin Trivia Game" but "Coin World Coin Trivia Game". smile.gif Coin World is the name of the magazine, and since its readers are mostly Americans, most of the questions will be about things American ...
