I own the ANA standards for grading
The PCGS grading and counterfeit detection guide (the combo book version)
Walter Beens encyclopedia of US and colonial coins
The Blue book (for more realistic prices of what you can get and should pay)
The Cherrypickers guide (not for gold, but worthwhile regardless)

There are dozens more books I WANT to get, including all the VAM books for Morgan and Peace dollars, and all of the die listings for early us coinage flowing hair to bust series. Which those few research books alone can cost a couple hundred......meh.

For general recognition and weight I use Krause Gold coins of the world
