Hi dear co-addicts, this coin is on an online auction in Europe (not eBay). http://sigistenz.com/bilder/5kop179-EM.jpg . I did not see the coin, the picture is the seller's. I know of no such thing, but with Russian coins you never know. Of course, the last digit may have been removed from the coin. Couldn't there be a very faint 4 as last digit? If it weren't for the suspicious leaves on the left, I would think it could be a filled die coin. But with the fakey looking leaves, I think it is a fakey.

It does not look right but perhaps this is a test piece for someone practicing his re-engraving skills. The leaves are too detailed on the left side of the reverse when compared to the quality of strike in other areas.

Do not see anything wrong. I see 1791.

Nothing especially wrong with the coin. Coin is OK...left leaves are OK. Last digit was removed. Can't tell 100% what it was but I do see an outline of a 1. I agree with BKB....altered 1791EM.
Contrast/color adjustment brings out the fact that the right side has been monkeyed with.
