The August C. Frank Co. of Philadelphia, around the turn of the 20 Century did restrikes and I saw evidence that they did make Confederate Restrikes. What you have there looks like a commemorative type curiosity. Doesn't look like an official trial strike but something struck for a particular desire.
Very nice piece!

These were done with the cancelled dies, but well before the dies shattered when they were used again in the 1960's to make thousands of restrikes.

Don't see much of the Aug. C. Frank Co. items in auction right now and most of all I see is low value stuff, some medals fetching .50 cents. I saw a few restrikes mentioned is some auction catalogs but those lots were never sold.
Odds are you can get it for a steal and then do the legwork on it later. Try a lowball offer if not sure.

Late to the thread on this one. What did it end up going for? I would have guessed $1,200 or so for such an unusual item.

It's probably been more than 25 years since I've seen one one of these blocks; however, I have seen one of these.
IIRC, the one I saw was owned by an Austin, Texas, coin dealer named Phillip Nohra. Also, IIRC, I believe he wanted $50 or $75 for it then.
I'd just bought one of the bronze Bashlow restrikes from him for $10 [again, IIRC]. I still have it.
The obv/rev block is a cool item. I wanted one then, and, I'd buy one now if I knew where I could get one and if I could afford it.
Congrats!!
