My wife is pregnant and as a result I will be losing my job (as a house husband for our 2 year old, lol) later this fall, so I've been job searching the past few months and I decided to turn my hobby into my profession. I applied to a number of numismatic firms and as of yesterday I have been hired to work in the consignments department at Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas!
I'll literally see tens of thousands of coins every year and I am thrilled about the opportunity to improve my grading ability through finally being able to consistantly see tons of graded coins. Plus the folks i spoke with seemed really positive about the prospects for advancement into other numismatic positions as my skills develop! This is my foot in the door to advancing my numismatic goals and I couldn't be more excited.IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Image

I will start sometime in the latter half of October, although the exact date hasn't been nailed down yet.

I just couldn't sit on this any longer and I want to thank the members of the various boards I've belonged to who have been a great sounding board for me the last couple of years as I started actively trying to learn the ins and outs of coin collecting. Without the knowledge I've gained from you guys I definately wouldn't be doing this now! Thanks! IPB ImageIPB Image

Unfortunately, I will probably not be around as much after the move, but I'll still make it a point to visit as much as possible. I am definately addicted my coin sites and I can't imagine just checking out, lol.

Congrats on both your wife and the job. I'd be very excited to turn a hobby into a profession (something I've given a lot of though about with 2 hobbies). Good luck and let us know how everything turns out.

Congrats! I'm jealous about the Heritage gig. I see that Help Wanted: Numismatist notice in their email every week and want to apply.

Excellent news on both counts! CONGRATULATIONS!

At least you'll be moving to Dallas in the winter, so it won't be so hot, and of course not nearly as cold as Chicago! Heritage is a wonderful firm, I've done business with them for many years, best of luck in your new position! bthumbsup.gif
