Since there are no coin clubs near where I live, I have been thinking about starting one. However, I have no idea where to start. Would anyone else who has started or been in a club for a while give me some pointers or some links to help me get started? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I guess this is why we have this forum here: to unite everyone worldwide, regardless of where you are at, but the only thing you require is a PC and an internet connection

The demographics are important to the club's "charter". If you have a lot of younger families you need to stress YN programs -- but be careful not to be a babysitting service. There's a lot of help available from the ANA and also from the Metropolitan Coin Club in Atlanta. Check their website for some info. They used to offer a presentation on starting a club.
Metropolitan Coin Club of AtlantaBy the way their newsletter is excellent and continually wins all kinds of national awards. I don't see the start a coin club link anymore. I'd send an email to Bill Fizaz - he's in their contacts section. Good luck.

Coin clubs only thrive in areas where there are very enthusiastic collectors. I know of one in the SF Bay area, the Diablo Numismatic Society that was driven by about 4-5 collectors, the rest were followers. However in Houston there was nothing resembling a coin club in a city of several million people. The last club in the area where I now live disbanded because of so few members back in the 1980's. When it was started in the 1960's it was thriving.

I found a pdf file of the brochure on starting a club that the Metropolitan Club had done along with the GNA. It's a pdf file. If you pm your email address I'll forward it to you.

Ocala has a very nice and active coin club. It's a little light on the educational seminar/presentation side as far as I'm concerned but the people are great. The meetings are crowded and the auctions are fun. The annual show is just fantastic. We have very few YNs and I'd guess the average age is 63 - mostly male. It might not fit everyone's ideal but it's a great club and very successful.

Thanks for the help and ideas. I'm hoping to get this organized and started with the New Year. Wish me luck.

WOW, very ambitious. Best of luck with the club.
I was thinking of joining the local one myself.
