Indeed, those Russian notes from the first part of the 1900's (and before if you can find them) are gorgeous. Have you ever seen the 100 and 500r, those things are HUGE.

While the designs of all their notes are great, I really like the Portuguese notes with explorers on them. This one sailed into my mailbox today.

I just got the new polymer Antarctican notes in....

Two $1 bills (one commemorative, other not)
One $2 bill (non-Commemorative)
Two $3 bills (one Commemorative, other not)

these things are some of the best polymer notes I have. Very nice designs, and the are somewhat large in size.

I also got a Vietnamese 10,000 Dong note (polymer issue).... Another very nice note.....

I managed to pay face value for the Antarctican notes by buying direct from the Antarctican Overseas Exchange Office rather than pay inflated prices from Ebay....

superbeast1098

This note, dated 1979 lists for 50 in the new catalog.. but I paid 55 for it from a favorite, reliable dealer - I checked and they have no more of this type. There is another note offered on Ebay today that is dated 1966 and it is going for 65 - which is full catalog - but I've never bought from them.

I can understand your love of maps. I had to have this banknote because of the explorer and the maps... It goes well with my maps of Africa from 1897. I have one overall map of the whole continent and then four more that are more detailed sections of the Southern, Central, Northwest and Northeast areas.

Wow. Quite affordable.

Oh, and in an ideal world with an ideal income, I'd have two main hobbies: Coins/Notes and Map-Collecting. But one hobby is much more accessible right now. Guess which one that is..

Hello banknote forum people,

Here are a few of my recent pick-ups:

1916 5 Peso Star/Replacement Note

1903 2 Peso Silver Certificate (signature of President William Taft, 6 years before he was a US President!)

1937 10 Peso PNB Note (Washington RADAR Note)

I would post more, but I don't want to take up too much room. These are some of the more interesting US/Philippine notes I have bought recently, and while I didn't intend for this to happen, each one has a US president on them! Thank you for looking!
Grant Ness
I got most of these a while ago, but never posted. After taking pics of the items I have for sale (go check it out!), I took these as well. The only brand new item is the new Venezuelan notes.

New Venezuelan Bolivares Notes

Some Bundles of Serbian Dinar. (these were cheap! =D)

Some Bundles of Zambian Kwacha.

A handful of Iraqi Dinar. Believe it or not, a local exchange place buys them back. >_<

The Serbian notes are fun, I only have one but the design and orientation make for a really interesting note. Nice heap! Now only if I could find bundles of pre WWII German currency like that, lol.

I'm not much for goats per se, but - you gotta like tree goats! I remember seeing them on TV nature shows, and now I have some on a banknote!

thedeadpoint
I need me some african notes.
De Orc
some great looking motes there guy's bthumbsup.gif I do like the one with the goats up a tree hysterical.gif
hiho
How do the goats get down from the trees? confused1.gif
Scottishmoney
I like that Djibouti note, fascinating use of colour and design. And the tree goats, something new I never knew.
De Orc
They use light weight gliders to get down, and helium balloons to get up in the first place, seen it all on the discovery channel hysterical.gif clapping.gif Of course this beats the old method (Used in the UK and some other countries) were they sat on acorn & waited for the trees to grow, then floated down on leafs during autumn bthumbsup.gif
Dave

Been trying to get this one for a while because of the nice map scene on the reverse.

Scottishmoney
Nice Peseta, those must have been printed in small numbers, because they are pricey from that era, especially the 1945 because of the design.
De Orc
That is a very good looking note bthumbsup.gif

Nice set of notes you've go there! These don't seem to be offered too often on the market, and even the cancelled notes can be expensive. Good going! bthumbsup.gif

Scottishmoney
Nice Montenegrin notes, from a place most people would not even know was a country and is yet again a country. I have a Perper coin somewhere that dates from 1912 I think.

Have to say it is nice when you see something new bthumbsup.gif and those are very new to me grin.gif I have heard about them but never actualy seen any so Many Thanks clapping.gif

Let's talk HUGE this is 1 of 5 1912 500 Ruble notes that I bought this morning at my local coin dealer.

Scottishmoney
The Russian 500 Rublei note reigns as one of the great classics of banknotes, it is huge with a lovely design. And Natalya is the entry for Russia in the beautiful women on banknotes.
thedeadpoint
With that obverse, I expected a blank or blahhh reverse but no!
siluska
prommised some yugoslavian ones...
the first 3 are printed after WWI and replaced the different banknotes from the area, especially the austro hungarian korona. are overprinted with value in dinar and korona( 1 d=4 K).
the 100 dinar was printed in 1929 and comes in 2 wmk varieties. it is one of my favorites... after 1941 was handstamped or overprinded by the italians or the germans and circulated also. and soon replaced by some serbian tipes. but those tomorow..
siluska
enjoy

Just added this interesting 1959 Indonesia 50 Rupiah with serial number 50 ME 05555. Lots of 5s and prefix 50 that matches 50 Rupiah plus a meaningful "ME" letter prefix.

thedeadpoint
Oh, See. I was wondering just earlier today where you were.

Nice note. Definitely shows more age and wear than most of your posts. What is in the watermark?

Honestly, I am not too bothered with the note condition since I go for interesting serial number that fits into my collection criteria . The watermark is the Indonesia crest. An eagle or bird with wings. If you visit any Indonesian embassy in any country, you should be able to see a huge one display at their hall. I saw a very huge one once in Singapore at the embassy. smile.gif

I don't think my piece is a solid. As I am not too familiar with this older series Indonesia banknote, given the serial number 05555, it should not be a solid number unless there are some reason not to print a number greater than 0 on the first digit of the serial number. There are some countries such as Brazil where an earlier series banknote reserve the first digit as 0 unless it reaches a million to include a "1" on the first digit.

I do fancy the prefix "50 ME". So far, I have banknotes with prefix OUR 555555, 0MY 555555, and this one ME. It would be nice to have a prefix FIVE 555555 in my collection. Any countries with four letter prefix so far ? bhyper.gif

Yes, but usually initials on Scottish banknotes, in this case QETQM for Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother

Or this one from the following year, TQGJ or The Queen's Golden Jubilee:

thedeadpoint
Interesting, SM. Are all serial numbers for pound notes with that prefix?
Scottishmoney
The prefixes in the serial are the initials of whatever they are commemorating:

In this case Alexander Graham Bell.
thedeadpoint
I guess since every note commemorates someone, then every note has those prefixes.
DreamFLight911
More notes from Mother Russia.

100 Rubles 1910

1000 Rubles 1917

Scottishmoney
The 1000 Ruble note is interesting for many reasons, one it was the first note issued by the Provisional Russian Government, and still had many of the Tsarist era wording, signatures etc., it also had a swastika in the background on the front, then a good luck symbol, and not associated with Nazis, the reverse had the State Duma or assembly in the centre vignette. Curiously the wording on the front explains that the note is redeemable in gold coin, at the dolya weight etc. But of course that never happened, and the note very quickly lost all value.

A note with a lot of history, the pilots depicted on the note were flying from the USA back to Lithuania but unfortunately they crashed only about 150KM from reaching their destination, but they were a source of pride for a small country. This particular note series is one of my favourite, Lithuanian notes are very colourful and well designed. This 10 Litu note has been updated, with more anti-counterfeiting measures incorporated in the design, but will be shortlived when Lithuania adopts the Euro.
