These notes bear the name of the Black Sheep Company of Wales Limited.I have got a 5 Shillings & a 10 Pounds of this series, plus a 1 Pound of the predecessor organisation - The Chief Treasury of Wales Limited, whose name is on the notes of the Black Sheep Company of Wales Limited. These notes are affectionately known as 'Black Sheep' notes. Most of them were never issued, but they were dumped into the numismatic trade through England. They are actually quite common notes.

it sure is pretty.

the front circles are supposed to depict some middle-age astronomical phenomenon that occured over the city. i'm not quite sure why they haven't gotten around to updating this note with a hologram strip yet.

Some of those would fit right in with my "weird people" collection, esp. that 50.

I remember going to France in 1995, and my company gave us an envelope with about 2,500 francs for taxis, tolls etc. and one of the notes they gave us was a 500 franc note like the one you have pictured. The only reasons I remember it was that guy has the look on his face that we all had after we spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to fit it in our wallets!

Oh Miguel if I am not wrong, the Singapore bankote that starts with the serial 1 seems to be issued just last year 2004 or so if I am not wrong. Serial 0 was issued since 1999 and it is time to replace the old banknotes. Also note the hologram difference with serial 0 and serial 1 with the same banknote. I am quite sure there are some differences.

New banknotes today:
Russia
100 Roubles 1912-1917 I.Shipov & Mets
Germany

5 Mark 1904
The aroma on the German notes reveal that their former owner was a tobacconist

Oooooh...I've always wanted to have a few of those "reb" notes. I've got some civil war notes from the good side. Seems like the folks that collect confederate currency must really like it because the prices seem to be awfully high. If you know of a good place to get them, let us know.
San_Miguel98
Oct 19 2005, 05:35 AM
oddly enough, i purchased my reb notes from a yankee dealer in boston! (denlys.com) you can save quite a bit by taking notes with "minor" imperfections...the twenty i bought is cut-cancelled, and the fifty was cut improperly near the top. besides that, the notes were more or less perfect, and they both cost less than the "problem-free" ten dollar note that isn't as bright.

I have an old Canal Bank $20, and a North Carolina $2 which are as close as I have to confederate money. My latest purchase was 4 old $20 bills, series 1950, 1950 A and two 1950 B. I will likely place the duplicates up in the auction forum this weekend.

1796 - 25 Francs Mandat Territoriale
LinkThese were huge and were backed by confiscated church and emigre lands. Supposedly you could trade a pile of these in on some of that land and in fact rich people bought up property with these notes. For those who didn't have that much money they were just another form of assignat, rapidly depreciating until they were virtually worthless. If you look closely you can see this is a Series 1 note. They released hundreds of series with 50-100,000 notes in each series.
