While looking at www.coppercoins.com I kept running across phrases like "light to moderate spread can be seen on AMERICA and ONE CENT" and "A strong spread shows as doubling of a portion of column 7 to the right of the statue."
Can anyone give me a better explanation of exactly what "spread" means when it comes to coin errors? Kind of confused, the pictures on the site aren't helping much.

Hi,
"Spread" is the term used to describe the amount of doubling seen on coins that have been struck with doubled dies. Light spread indicates that the letters are less separated than a coin that would have more of a "spread". The further apart the doubling the more the "spread"
Spread refers to the degree of separation between the impressions on adoubled die.
