The past record holder was Russia for minting 3 kilo silver coins, but it seems that Australia got it's title this year for minting... 10kilo silver coin shok.gif That is about 320oz of silver!

Definately for bullion purposes, but with such a hefty price tag... well it would be better off used as a discus or something bleh.gif

Good god that thing is enourmous. blink.gif So is the price tag. cry.gif Would love to have one though. bleh.gif
Art
Certainly an interesting curiosity but not something I would ever consider.

If you limit the production to 1000 pieces and have to recoup the price of the die or lazerengraving you end up with a lot of overhead

This is a collector item
Imaging it falling of the mantle piece and breaking the foot of the cleaning lady biggrin.gif

1000 of 10 kilo coins... 10 tons... hmmm... crazy.gif

What a beast. (And I don't mean the dog.)

Does anybody know the diameter of that thing? I tried the Perth Mint's website, but always get an alert about some database error. In any case, for me this is in the same category as the Austrian "Big Phil" coin - may end up in a book of world records, but that is about it.

Maybe there is one more feet Australia can add, that is, Australia has minted 1kilo platinum coin in the past... now that's a monster and probably the largest platinum bullion coin ever minted...
tabbs
Now what about this?

A ten kilo monster with a "maximum diameter of 181.00 mm and a maximum thickness of 23.00 mm. An extremely limited mintage: 20 pcs worldwide."

I would like to buy one of the Chinese Kilo Gold coins, but so far I have not found one. 10 Kilos is a bit rich for my blood though. shok.gif
Sir Sisu
I think instead I would take Libby's advice and collect manhole covers before something like this. wink.gif

To be honest though I would rather have 10 kilos of silver in many smaller crown-size portions. biggrin.gif

When I was in Ukraine we had to dodge holes in the streets wherever we went, the manhole covers had all been stolen and scrapped.

I read a story datelined from Belgium this last week about the same thing happening there now.

I don't think collectors are stealing them though bhyper.gif

Ummm, don't we have the same problems these days, due to the rising metal prices? Copper wire gets stolen, even loose railway tracks, construction sites and scrap metal places in Germany now have to be guarded much more than a couple of years ago ...

I liked the ones that Libby was trying to get Sir Sisu to pilfer and decourate his domicile with.

$29K for a gold Kilo coin worth $20K is ridiculous.
ccg
Markup's just wayyy to much.

*whistles*

That's one hell of a monster, at just over 1 1/2 stone i wouldn't call it spare change. Man you could give yourself an hernia carry round half a dozen of those.

In fact six of those would weigh more than me.
superbeast1098
I would love to hae one of those, but not with that price tag though..... Makes a great paperweight too...... tongue.gif
