Full Version: more unknown world gold coins...

thanks for the help guys and gals... I am learning more about this stuff but I am still for the mostpart a world novice... I tried to use my krause... but I was unable to find either of them.


I thought this might have been british... but if it is I didn't find it in the book.

and for some odd reason this guy reminds me of american colonial.... but I could be totally wrong...

The first one is German (Bavaria i think, but it's just a calculated guess...) the second one its a British Guinea but let's see what our UK friends tell about its authenticity (i think the coin is OK).

wow I was way off! hahaha!!

I did find the first one and it is bavarian 1/2 Carolin thanks for the help!

You guys are too fast for me.. I find that the shields will often give away the country of origin quickly (i.e., the Bavarian with the lozenges and lions).

The second one is a 1794 George III "spade" gold guinea. It is called a spade guinea on acount of the shape of the sheild in the reverse. You do get a lot of tokens which look similar but I think yours is authentic. Some of the tokens have "In memory of the good old days" wrote on the reverse around the sheild. Nice coins.
