100 years ago, in October 1906, the French artist paul Cézanne died. The Monnaie de Paris has just issued a set of silver and gold coins on that occasion. The pieces - same design for all three - show on one side a self portrait of Cézanne and, on the other side, his work Les joueurs de cartes (The Card Players).

The most affordable coin is the silver coin (face value €1.50); the other two are gold coins (€20 - 1/2 oz, €100 - 5 oz). The mint prices (EU incl. TVA) are about €40 for the silver coin, €550 for the half ounce gold coin ... and almost €5000 for the big one.

I've been a Cezanne fan for a long time. Did some reports on him in Art History classes. I like the coin but not the bust of Cezanne.

Well, such coins lack the color of Cézanne's works - which is also why I find it difficult to "simply" put such reproductions on coins. Apart from that, the portrait is OK, but I also like the scene with the players better ...
