Recruiting Curators for the VCM

thedeadpoint

Recommended Posts

I'm ready to compile the list of folks who want to curate different exhibits and topics in the Virtual Coin Museum. First, a few notes:

  • The format will be based on the format started by StuJoe:
    • Title
    • Image
    • History
    • Specifications
    • Bibliography

[*]Check out the following for good examples of the above format:

[*]I encourage you to use sub-headings if you think they are necessary. For example, maybe the curator of the wheat cent exhibit wants to have a sub-heading for the 1955 DDO or the steel cents. Having curators that know a lot about their subjects will let us talk about the major varieties and errors in more detail.

[*]If you want to break it up into consecutive posts to make it easier to read, go for it.

[*]Be sure to give proper references.

[*]For images, please try to use your own or those of other Coinpeople. If no one has an important image you need, find a stand-in with proper references.

[*]At first, I think we should only let curators actively-update three topics at once. Once they are updated, we can add more.

[*]If it seems prudent, we can have 2-3 curators for the same topic if they collaborate.

[*]Most importantly, Art2.1 is the VCM main curator, so he'll have final say about permissions, edits, etc.

Now for the fun part.

Who wants to curate and which topics do you want to curate? Comment below and I'll add your names to the list. We'll work on permissions afterwards.

I think we'll keep it at that for now. If I omitted some major issues that you want to curate, let me know. We can add commemoratives and other special issues at another date. As for other countries, we'll get to that, too.

I'll be interesting in seeing the signups for this. Please note that Anton is the only person who can assign permissions and create forums/subforums and that sort of thing.

Just want to emphasize that, if you are interested in helping out, please tell me which categories you want to help out with and I'll add your name to the list.

I will help with whatever I can. Over the next few weeks perhaps I can put together a list of exactly what we need for certainl catagories. For example - Half Dimes -- we really need photos that we can get from Omnicoin of the various issues.

Sometime today or tomorrow I'll find a place and post a thread about things we need in the vcm. I'd like to cover all of the museums in one thread so I'll probably stick it in the coins forum and sticky it. Any thoughts?

Clive, I realized that after I made this post. I'd be happy to make it "all museums" but my US-centric mentality forgot about that when I was typing up this thread.

I'll need your help expanding it. I don't know enough about non_US issues. I don't even know where to start. Should we have it be open to whatever issues you guys want to share? i.e. jump right into Aethelred coins? Your call. I'll support.

When the poll was begun I envisaged all museums, not just the US one. I won't be of much help here, sorry.

There are museums for many coinages -- UK, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, ... and more can be created based upon the interest. I only started with the work I know about for the US coins. Take a look in the Forums and you'll see the Virtual Museums. Some need a good bit of work. I think George picked the US to kick this off because we just have a lot more US collectors than anything else (except maybe Russian).

Sorry but I couldn't get that link with the name thing to work again. I tried. I even went back to the posts that showed me how and copied the stuff from there but no go.

The point is there are museums all over the place and if you have one you want to work on decide which it is and how you'd like to approach it. Please don't take anything that's being posted as "excluding" anyone of any country.
