Tiffibunny
Is this bad plating or a bad planchet? What causes the bubbles?
ccg
Or perhaps played with? (Though unlikely). I think the bubbles can be caused if there's corrosion in the zinc underneath (I've played with some zinc lincolns and weak acid before)
unicorn
looks like something reacted with the penny
syzygy
This one looks like somebody took a dremel to it, but I see the same kind of bubbling. It's impossible to know, and maybe the dremel explanation is the simpler, but this could be late-stage bubbling. 1999 Ugly Cuss 1999 Ugly Cuss close ups
16d
I'ts a lamination error, where air is trapped under the thin layer of copper.
Metalman
I'ts a lamination error, where air is trapped under the thin layer of copper. This is my opinion also , except for the error part, I do not consider these to be errors, The ones with open holes are the result of the tops of these bubbles breaking away. daggit
I found that quite a few Canadian pennies have bubbles, some bubbles are quite large and extend across the penny. When I am not so busy I will post a couple of pics.
gxseries
Most probably metal plating isses. Pretty common with metal electro plating if you set the heat and temperature wrong...

cwb
It's not a lamination error. This site explains what it is: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/miscellaneous.html That site also has a three section error guide that explains a lot about what errors are and how they happen. Hope this helps!
