has anyone notice two different dates on shields?

Recommended Posts

Sorry. Can't really see any difference but my eyes are not great especially on my monitor. May be more a question of monitor resolution for me. Anyway welcome to CoinPeople. It's an interesting topic and we have a lot of penny collectors here.

yes, you are correct! that's exactly what I was trying to describe. even on the inside, where it looks as if you are pointing to it with the red angels. lines up pretty good on both images. so what can I do if I do discover something like that, well me and Constanius and also Dockwalliper? I say you two because I did not notice them two areas, lol. I just seen the inside of the 5.

I can see what you are seeing now. Thanks for the enhanced photos. I don't think it would constitute a variety but then I'm not a variety collector. There are more than one set of dies in use for any given coin and as they're cleaned and polished changes do take place. I suppose the difference in angle is also possible when the dies are created from the hub. I'm also guessing there's wear possible on the hub especially for something like the cent with its huge mintage. Good eyes! I hope something neat comes of it for you.

all that is true, but to have only three sides different than for every sides that the 5 has. if it were from worn die I would think all sides that the 5 has would be different, than from a normal five. so I am thinking it would be a different font or size. but I also am not sure you maybe right. thank you!

p.s. if you understand what I mean, i hope that came out correct. lol oh well.
